Who are you?

Not sure what a co-op is? If you want better pay and holidays at work, and a say in what happens, then a co-op could be for you. If you want a better place to live, then a co-op could be for you. And it’s simpler than you might think.

 Who are we?

Manchester in Common is people in co-ops, and people who want to be in them.

We want to make co-operatives happen. We want to link up people who want to start them with people who have the experience and resources to back up those plans. And we want to make sure that the dreams are backed up by robust business planning.

We’ve already managed to secure significant funding to start new co-ops, and we’re hard at work to make that happen. Get in touch using the form below, and let’s start talking about what we can do.

 

What’s the story?

We started Manchester in Common because all 6 of us want to meet the needs of our community. We’ve all got experience living in, and working in, co-operatives, and know how powerful and rewarding they can be. We also know the challenges. We want to support the growth of new co-operatives, in a way that allows people to approach those challenges in a smart way. Co-operatives offer an empowered way of working and living by sharing ownership and decision-making. So every member reaps the benefits. And because co-operatives set themselves up in partnership with other co-operatives, knowledge and importantly resources can be shared, thriving instead of competing.

Co-operatives reflect the needs of the environment and society, by focusing on providing what people need. They have a long tradition, but we think they’re also the future of working and living. Want to learn more about what co-ops are? Read more here?

We’re currently in the research phase of this project – we know how important it is to arm yourself with knowledge before you embark on a plan of action – but we’ve already secured significant resources, and we already have successes under our belt. Read more about our case studies.
